International Agreement Visa

Are you seeking to engage in work in the UK that is covered under international law or treaty? The Temporary Work – International Agreement visa may be right for you.

This visa category is ideal for individuals who will fulfill roles such as:

Working for an overseas government or in a 'recognised international organisation.'

Serving as a private servant in a diplomatic household.

Please ensure you meet all eligibility requirements before proceeding with your application.

Previously known as the Temporary Worker – International Agreement Worker visa (T5), this streamlined visa type has now been replaced, offering a more straightforward approach for applicants.

Should your contract involve providing services to a UK company, consider applying through the Service Supplier visa (Global Business Mobility) route instead.

FAQs

You are eligible to apply for a visa up to 3 months prior to your work start date in the UK, as specified on your certificate of sponsorship.

Typically, applicants outside the UK receive decisions within 3 weeks, while those inside the UK can expect an 8-week timeframe. Faster decision options, subject to additional fees, are available both inside and outside the UK.

Applicants must cover the application fee (£298 per person) and a healthcare surcharge (£624 annually, subject to verification). Proof of sufficient personal savings is also required—refer to eligibility requirements for specifics.

Duration of stay under the International Agreement visa varies:

  • Overseas government or international organisation workers: Up to 2 years, or as per your certificate of sponsorship (plus up to 14 days).
  • Private servants in diplomatic households: Up to 5 years, with biennial renewals possible. Each stay must not exceed the certificate of sponsorship
duration (plus up to 14 days).

Entry is permitted from the visa start date. Early job termination may necessitate leaving the UK within 60 days, depending on remaining visa validity.

Visa holders may:

  • Undertake study (some courses require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme certificate).
  • Work as per the certificate of sponsorship.
  • Pursue secondary employment under certain conditions.
  • Travel internationally and re-enter the UK.
  • Have dependants accompany them.
    However, they may not:
  • Claim public funds.
  • Commence work prior to visa approval.
