Creative Worker Visa in the UK

If you are a professional in the creative industries planning to engage in work in the UK, it is imperative to secure a Temporary Work – Creative Worker visa.

Who Should Apply?

This visa requirement is applicable to you if:

You have secured an employment opportunity within the UK as a creative professional.

You satisfy all other prerequisite eligibility conditions.

It’s important to note that this visa has superseded the prior Temporary Worker – Creative and Sporting visa (T5). For sports professionals, separate provisions apply under the International Sportsperson visa.

Understanding the Sponsorship Process

Before initiating the visa application process, a fundamental requirement is obtaining a certificate of sponsorship from a sponsor licensed by the UK government. This certificate is a testament to the fact that you have a job offer and your role is crucial to the sponsor organization’s operations.

Why is this important? Your proposed creative endeavor in the UK must be intrinsically linked to your sponsor organisation’s work. This interrelation underscores the legitimacy of your role and the purpose of your journey to the UK.

FAQs

You are eligible to apply for the Creative Worker visa three months before your work commencement date in the UK, as specified on your certificate of sponsorship. The application process involves identity verification and document submission, potentially requiring
additional time if an appointment is necessary.

After submitting your application and the necessary documentation, expect to receive a decision typically within three weeks for applications outside the UK, and up to eight weeks for those submitted within the UK. For expedited processing, additional fees may apply, depending on your location (inside or outside the UK).

Applicants must budget for the application fee (£298 per person) and a healthcare surcharge (£624 annually, though variable). Proof of sufficient personal savings is also required; refer to the eligibility guidelines for specifics.

Creative Worker visa allows a maximum 12-month stay, or the duration specified in your certificate of sponsorship plus an additional 28 days, whichever period is shorter. Extensions may be possible. Note: your stay cannot commence more than 14 days prior to the start date listed on your certificate of sponsorship. A visa concession may be available for work periods of three months or less.

Visa holders can:

  • Undertake study (certain courses may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme certificate).
  • Perform the job specified in their certificate of sponsorship.
  • Engage in secondary employment within the same sector and level as the primary role (restrictions apply).
  • Work a secondary job listed on the Skilled Worker shortage occupation list (up to 20 hours per week).
  • Bring dependants (partner and children) under eligibility criteria.

Yes, restrictions include:

  • No access to public funds.
  • Prohibition on business establishment.
