Charity Worker Visa in the UK

Seeking to engage in voluntary charity work in the UK? The Temporary Work – Charity Worker visa may be your gateway to contributing to a cause.

Eligibility Criteria:

Transition to the New Visa Type

Please note, the UK immigration system has phased out the previous Temporary Worker - Charity Worker visa (T5), replacing it with the streamlined Temporary Work - Charity Worker visa. This update is part of an ongoing effort to simplify the visa application process for international volunteers.

Mandatory Sponsorship for Your Visa

To proceed with your application, it’s imperative to secure a 'certificate of sponsorship' from an established, licensed charity operating in the UK. This certificate is a crucial component of your application, serving as proof of the role you’re set to undertake and its significance to the charity's ongoing work.

The nature of your unpaid work in the UK must correspond directly to the charitable activities conducted by your sponsoring organization. This connection ensures that your efforts as a volunteer are in line with the objectives and needs of the charity you're supporting.

FAQs

Initiate your Charity Worker visa application up to 3 months in advance of your proposed start date in the UK, correlating with the date on your certificate of sponsorship. Preparing early ensures ample time for identity verification and document submission, pivotal aspects of the process.

Post submission, the adjudication on your visa typically follows these timelines:

  • Outside the UK: Approximately 3 weeks
  • Inside the UK: Roughly 8 weeks For those requiring an expedited decision, options exist for accelerated processing, contingent on your location (inside or outside the UK).

Financial preparedness encompasses several factors, including:

  • A standard application fee of £298 per person
  • An annual healthcare surcharge, typically around £624 (variations apply based on individual circumstances)
  • Proof of sufficient personal savings (refer to eligibility requirements for specifics) These are indispensable commitments, applicable whether you're within the UK or applying from abroad.

Your altruistic journey in the UK can extend up to 12 months or align with the tenure specified in your certificate of sponsorship, plus an additional 14 days. Early arrival provisions permit entry to the UK 14 days prior to your official job commencement.

You may take a second job in the same sector and at the same professional level as your charity role, with a limitation of up to 20 hours per week.

Yes, your partner and dependent children are allowed to stay with you if they meet the eligibility criteria.
