TLScontact (UKVCAS) Appointments in the UK: What Applicants Need to Know (Updated December 2025)
Since 15 October 2024, the UK government appointed TLScontact as the new official commercial partner for UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS). This means that anyone applying for a UK visa, settlement, extension or citizenship from inside the UK must now use a TLScontact service point to submit their biometric information and supporting documents.
Below is a complete overview of what TLScontact is, how the process works, and important practical guidance for applicants — including essential points many people are unaware of.
What Is TLScontact?
TLScontact is a private service provider contracted by governments around the world, including the UK, to deliver administrative support for visa and immigration applications.
It operates UKVCAS centres across the UK where applicants:
provide biometrics (fingerprints + photograph)
submit their supporting documents
finalise the “in-person” stage of their application
TLScontact does not make decisions on visa or immigration applications. All decisions are made by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).
How the TLScontact / UKVCAS Process Works
1. Complete the application on GOV.UK
Applicants submit their visa or immigration form online and pay the Home Office fees. A Unique Application Number (UAN) is issued.
2. Book a TLScontact appointment
Using the UAN, applicants register on the TLScontact (UKVCAS) portal and book their biometric appointment.
3. Submit supporting documents
Documents can be uploaded online or scanned at the appointment (for a fee).
4. Attend the biometric appointment
Applicants must attend in person with ID and any documents needing to be scanned.
5. TLScontact transfers everything to UKVI
TLScontact securely sends biometrics and documents to the Home Office.
They cannot influence the decision or speed up the process.
Important Practical Guidance for TLScontact Appointments
(Solicitor-level notes — extremely useful for applicants)
The following points are based on experience, internal system behaviour, and the latest guidance as of December 2025. These do not appear clearly on the official TLScontact site but are crucial for applicants to understand.
1. You can upload documents online, use the scanning service, or select both
TLScontact allows applicants to:
upload documents in advance online,
use the document scanning service at the appointment, or
choose both (helpful if a document becomes available late).
Note there is a fee for the scanning service.
Selecting both options avoids last-minute issues and ensures nothing is missed.
2. It is recommended to leave at least 3 working days between document upload and your appointment
To ensure there is enough time for:
reviewing uploaded documents
identifying missing items
replacing unclear or incorrect files
Uploading documents the night before the appointment often leads to missed documents or issues in file size.
3. Have all documents ready before you submit the online application
It is recommended that applicants prepare all supporting evidence before submitting the application form.
Fard Solicitors cannot accept responsibility for documents sent after submission of the application, as there may not be enough time to review documents which can jeopardise the application.
4. Once documents are “submitted” on TLScontact, no additional uploads are possible
This is extremely important:
If documents are uploaded but NOT submitted, you (and your solicitor) can still view them and add more.
Once documents are submitted, the upload function locks.
After this point:
No more documents can be uploaded, and
Neither you nor your solicitor can view the final list of submitted documents.
This is a common source of problems for applicants.
It is recommended that a screenshot is taken of the document list to ensure this can be reviewed in case any documents were missed and need to be scanned in person.
5. Documents for scanning must be printed on A4 paper
If you plan to use TLScontact’s scanning service:
All documents must be in A4 size
Do not staple or bind documents
Ensure pages are clear and legible
This helps avoid delays and ensures clean scans.
6. Information above is accurate as of December 2025 — applicants should check TLScontact for updates
TLScontact processes and rules may change.
Applicants should always check the official TLScontact or GOV.UK site for updated information when preparing their application.
