How Our Hourly Rates Work
Divorce and Family Law
Divorce costs: our costs are fixed at £1,000 plus VAT (£1,200 inclusive of VAT). These costs do not include court fees or disbursement fees and apply only if the divorce proceedings are not contested and there are no jurisdictional issues; otherwise, costs will be charged on an hourly basis.
Our financial proceedings services are charged on an hourly rate basis, with an estimated quote provided based on the specifics of your case. This ensures you receive a tailored and accurate cost estimate at the outset. Costs in such proceedings are usually based on the complexity of the case and the value of the assets and can range from about £6k plus VAT (if settled at the outset and outside the court) to more than £50k plus VAT. These costs exclude counsel’s fees, court fees, etc.
Child arrangement proceedings and domestic abuse proceedings are also charged on an hourly basis. We usually reduce our hourly rates for victims of domestic abuse who do not have sufficient funds to represent themselves. Please note that victims of domestic abuse who receive public benefits may be eligible for legal aid; however, our services are provided on a private basis.

Residential Property Pricing
Not all transactions are the same and they will often involve various different issues or expectations of the parties involved.
We encourage that you always call us to discuss a transaction, in order that we can give an accurate estimate based on your circumstances. While we have fixed charges for some elements of the transaction, the fee for acting will vary depending on matters such as value, title issues, documents involved and timescales. The fee for acting will also vary depending on the seniority of the solicitor also dealing with your transaction.
Our aim is to charge a fair fee for a service for which you will feel you have received value for money. We do not pay referral fees to estate agents, so no part of our fee pays for any recommendations.

Mortgage Lender Representation Fees (Conveyancing)
Acting for Your Mortgage Lender During a Property Purchase
If your property purchase is funded by a mortgage, your conveyancing solicitor is usually required to act both for you and for your mortgage lender. This involves additional legal work and compliance obligations set by the lender.
At Fard Solicitors, we are upfront about these costs from the outset.
Our Mortgage Lender Fee
Where a mortgage is involved, we charge an additional fee of:
£350 – £450 + VAT
The exact fee depends on:
the mortgage lender
the type of mortgage finance (e.g. standard residential, buy-to-let, specialist lending)
the level of reporting and checks required by the lender
Some lenders, particularly specialist or buy-to-let lenders (for example, Paragon), require more extensive legal checks and reporting, which is why the fee may vary within this range.
We will always confirm the exact mortgage lender fee once your mortgage offer is issued, so you have full clarity before proceeding.
Why Is There a Separate Mortgage Lender Fee?
Acting for a mortgage lender is a separate legal responsibility and typically includes:
reviewing and complying with the lender’s detailed instructions
carrying out additional searches and checks required by the lender
reporting to the lender on the property title and any issues
ensuring the lender’s security is correctly registered
Not all conveyancing quotes include this work upfront. Some firms add lender fees later in the transaction. We prefer to be transparent from the start, so you can accurately compare conveyancing quotes and avoid unexpected costs.
